Classified US intelligence report suggests Iran regime unlikely to fall or change

A CLASSIFIED REPORT ISSUED two weeks ago by the United States National Intelligence Council (NIC) found that even a full-scale interstate war against Iran would be unlikely to dislodge or drastically alter the current regime. A summary of the report was revealed by The Washington Post, which cited three anonymous sources the paper said were intimately familiar with the report’s contents.
Composed of senior and highly respected intelligence analysts from across the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC), the NIC is tasked with producing classified strategic assessments on critical issues of concern to American decision-makers. Technically NIC reports represent the collective voice of all 18 intelligence agencies that make up the U.S. IC, and come as close as possible to the IC’s consensus view on pressing national security concerns.
According to The Washington Post, the NIC report outlines several scenarios for leadership succession in Iran, resulting from either a surgical “decapitation” campaign against specific elements of regime, or from a large-scale military assault against the entirety of the Iranian security state. It concludes that in both cases the Iranian regime is too entrenched and powerful to fall. Moreover, even in the event of “decapitation”, the regime has substantial human resources to keep replenishing its fallen military and civilian leaders, including the Supreme Leader.
Lastly, the NIC report concludes that the Iranian opposition within Iran and around the world is too disjointed, fragmented and disorganized to pose a credible alternative to the Iranian security state. While discussing a number of different potential scenarios for the takeover of power by the Iranian opposition, the NIC report concludes that such an eventuality remains “unlikely”, The Post reports.
The Post’s report appears to confirm earlier accounts by The New York Times and the Reuters news agency, which suggested that the consensus view among the U.S. IC is that, if killed, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei would almost certainly be replaced by another hardliner, who would be ideologically opposed to both Israel and the West.
Notably, The Washington Post notes that the NIC report does not consider the possibility that the U.S. and Israel might decide to engage in a protracted ground war against Iran. Additionally, the report does not entertain the possibility that ethnic separatist forces within Iran—such as the Kurds, the Azeris or the Balochis—might revolt against Tehran, thus sparking a nationwide armed conflict.

Looks like my assessment coincided with the US intelligence community’s when I commented on IntelNews on March 5, 2026 at 00:55 that:
“…an absolute theocracy under an Ayatollah will likely continue.
Backing him (or even alternatives for power) will be the Revolutionary Guards (combining military and political power)…”
Since the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28, 2026 the situation for US and Israeli forces may be worse – under Ali’s younger more military minded, more pro-nuclear replacement.
The replacement being Ali’s son Mojtaba Khamenei, born 1969, and appointed March 8, 2026. Mojtaba is close to Iran’s arch conservative Revolutionary Guard Corps, anti-protester, and he is considered more pro-nuclear weapons than his father.
With a CV like that US and Israeli forces may attempt to kill Mojtaba soon, with more illegal killings until a more moderate Leader is appointed. If the US and Israel want a malleable puppet there is always Crown Prince (son of the late Shah) Reza Pahlavi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reza_Pahlavi
After 9/11 intel for the most part has changed, and not in a good way. Anyone who has been alive a few decades, and is able think for themselves, will know what I’m talking about. First, these folks writing these reports can’t afford to get anything wrong, so they tend to go overboard in covering the field so to speak… And that is The Problem.
Luck seems to have it, but today it seems Leadership, real Leadership is going to rule the day. This mess didn’t just start today, it all began under Eisenhower’s time… Where were all these so called intelligence reports then… At end of Eisenhower final term, his administration was warned, and so they handed it off to JFK, where it was left, until the over throw of Shaw under Carter who had turn his back on the Shaw…
Arm-chairing during the middle of an operation by the bias media isn’t helping, unless your Iran… If only we could learn from history, instead of the repeating? The amount of treasury that has been wasted in this area of the world is just sick! Ending this mess is what the world needs, not kicking the can down the road or playing politics with the bias media and their lackeys…
The timing will never be better, than right now. Real Leadership doesn’t care about polling, but ending the madness once and for all. Imagine a time when nuclear weapons are available by a regime, the one who has no problem in killing off all of it’s people who don’t agree with it… If you think this can’t get worse, than keep kicking the can down the road.
NSA should have the browser history of every Republican congressman supporting Trump, it should be possible to figure out who Russia got in it’s pocket.
Hopefully this Presidents term will lead to some robust oversight of the office of President. Current POTUS actions on this war and other things like having near-armed conflicts with state governors shows the vulnerability of the system should POTUS become mentally unstable. When that happens it is up to his VC to take action in removing him and as the system is now that would be career suicide so it is unlikely to happen.
Look it is obvious, either is President of the United States demented or controled by a foreigh country. Posting this here on a blog read by intelligence professionals in the hope you can do something! The whole world, not just the western, is at risk!
I don’t understand why some still think Trump has something to do with Russia. Trump is the most investigate person one earth, and still all they can say for sure is that the DNC, and Hillary’s campaign paid Steele to write a dosser that has been discredited from every angle. I’m am no thin skin Trump supporter, but the truth is getting harder and harder to tell.
I’m a red blooded Republican, was lucky enough to place my first vote for Reagan and Bush. I never forget how the media treated them, or the first lady. It was bad, but this stuff going on today is so over the top, I wished someone could bring a little clarity for those who “can’t think for themselves”.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I am beginning to miss Brandon. I get where Trump is coming from, I just can’t figure out where all the finger pointers are coming from? The writing is on the wall, there is no grey. It’s black and white, and Iran and the Twelver Shia Islam fanatics, can not be allowed nuclear weapons. The religious folk look forward to starting the end of world in Iran, they brag about it. They are praying for the 12th Imam to appear.
Iran wants nukes because Israel got them (Dimona), the more unstable the leadership of USA seems the more countries will also wan’t nukes.
Israel has never said it will wipe Iran off the map. USA unstable? Funny how USA stops picking up the world tab, everything falls apart. Imagine a world with out the US of A.
Well, Europe has never been known for real leadership, one who like it’s cake and willing to eat. I for one would like to see the US close up all of it’s European bases, and bring the troops home.
Approaching the climax of the US-Israel war against Shiite fanatics ruling Iran.
Venezuelan compares to Kharg Island. Just as the Cuban house of cards collapsed with the US capture of the Venezuelan oil fields so too China’s house of cards will collapse after US marines capture and occupy Kharg Island. Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export terminal, critical for the country’s economy. It handles a significant portion of Iran’s oil exports, making it central to both domestic revenue and international trade partnerships. Approximately 90% of the oil refined and sold by Iran is exported to China through Kharg Island.
This relationship underscores China’s role as a major player in the Iranian oil market, providing Iran with a vital economic lifeline amid sanctions and trade restrictions imposed by the West. Just as Communist Castro Cuba will most likely become a US protectorate territory like Puerto Rico. In similar fashion should US Marines capture Kharg Island, this will terminate the US/Israeli War against Iran.
Iranians themselves must choose their own government. But loss of Kharg Island will cripple the Iranian economy like as Cubans experienced when Us Troops captured the President Maduro of Venezuela in one day. The collapse of Venezuela’s anti-US government directly impacted the economy of Cuba. Just as the collapse of the Shiite fanatic government of Iran will directly impact the economy of China.
Whether alleged Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was killed or incapacitated in the 28 February 2026 air raid that killed his father, remains a subject of speculation.
Iran, right now, may be run by a committee of the Revolutionary Guard.
I wonder what it will result in, the rise of AI at the same time as a highly untrustworthy human is the leader of the free world.
