New reports of nuclear spies arrested in Iran

CNN and UPI report that three more workers in Iran’s nuclear research program have been arrested by the Iranian government on spying charges. The reports originated from an Iranian government-controlled news agency tied to the Revolutionary Guards of the Islamic Republic of Iran. No further information is available at this point. However, this development may be related to the recent arrests in Iran of three alleged Israeli Mossad agents, as well as the reported interception last month of an alleged ten-member British special operations team operating in Iran’s southeastern border. The frequency with which reports of arrests of foreign or foreign-handled spies have been emerging from Iran in recent weeks, seems to point to a systematic uncovering by the Islamic Republic of an extensive spy network operating in the country. We will post more information on this issue as we encounter it. [JF]
